URB Exclusive: MiM0SA's "Pushing Little Daisies"
If you’re at all like me, a minimal tech, indie hip-hop fan who’s becoming increasingly confused by the nominalization of the various distillations of the two respective genres and/or their hybrids, then I’ll spare you the jargon and avoid trying to pigeon-hole MiM0SA’s sound as being “funky-witch-house” or “dubhop-groovy-pants” or something. Simply put, the LA-based DJ/producer is one in a series of southland players who’ve been helping to breed a dup-step-originated music scene that’s huge here in the area and has, till now, been fully out of the eye of the mainstream.
On his new single “Pushing Little Daisies”, MiM0SA, real name Tigran Mkhitaryan, culls together all the subtleties and strengths of his clubb-y debut disc “Silver Lining”, an LP that incorporates the influence of everyone from sample king Amon Tobin to Detroit house-r Carl Craig to the ubiquitous, and revered, dub-stepp-er Burial. The track’s lyrics, in typical techno form, offer a circular threat that’s thrown askew by the ragga-tinged tongue of its vocalist. Coming in at just 2 minutes and 26 second’s Pushing Little’s snare drumls hit hard and are deftly thick. They lay carefully over the steady 2-step backbeat as it vacillates in and out of the composition and pitchy, high-frequency synths ring out.

Though elements of the track ring derivative, MiM0SA’s own strength as a producer and arranger has proved powerful enough to solicit not only a strong local following, but also a remix commission from house supergroup Dirty Vegas. Oh, and, it should be thrown in that there’s talks floating about of a possible collaboration with the one and only Warren G. Stay tuned to find out if the two manage to come together and “regulate”, meanwhile, cruise your cursor over onto the link below and enjoy.
